The music ranges from light classical, through 'big band', Broadway stage, film and television, to 'pop' - the Band can provide a musical Pandora's box of delights for every occasion.

Another Successful Year!

Asby Concert Band brought the 2007 - 2008 year to a resounding conclusion with another visit to Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. Resplendent in our orange polo shirts and black ACB fleeces - and yes we did need them, even in July! - the Band managed to play for two hours without rain interrupting play.

An appreciative audience enjoyed film selections from 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and 'The Cowboys', popular pieces like 'Never on a Sunday', and, of course, 'The Trolley Song', and even a couple of Polkas -' Tritsch-Tratsch' and 'Thunder and Lightening' - to bring back memories of recent tour to the Black Forest in Germany.

The Band now starts a well -earned summer break; we recommence rehearsing on the first Sunday in September, and start preparing for our first concert of the 2008-2009 season at Ibstock. The Ibstock concert will commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Ceasation of Hostilities in 1918, so bring your flags to wave, and be in good voice, because we will be playing the likes of 'Pomp and Circumstance No.1', 'Jerusalem' and 'Rule Britannia'.

So a big 'Thank You' to all our Members, Patrons, and Supporters for all your contributions to a memorable and overwhelmingly successful year.

In May 2008 Ashby Concert Band enjoyed an amazingly successful tour of the Black Forest Region of Germany. With perfect weather and excellent venues, the Band played to appreciative audiences in Baden-Baden, Bad Krozingen and on the shores of Lake Titisee.

You can see a few photographs of the Band playing in Germany on the Germany 2008 page of the website; more photographs will be added to the Gallery page over the coming days.

A big thanks to everyone who came and played, and to those who came and helped and supported our efforts.

We are grateful to Rayburn Tours of Derby for doing such a fantastic job organising the tour and making all the concert arrangements.

We've been busy working on the website. They do say "a picture is worth a thousand words", so many more photographs have been added to the Gallery page, charting our history way back to 1999! We will be adding more photographs taking us back to 1996 in the near future.

Brass Players!

If you have experience of playing in a wind band or orchestra (and so read bass clef if you are a trombone, euphonium or tuba player), and have achieved at least Grade 5 standard, and you don't happen to be playing for a band right now, then get in touch with our Director of Music. Go to our Contacts Page and send an email right now!
