2012 Concert Programme

Arrangements are well advanced for a programme of concerts in 2012. In May we will be performing a concert of music at The Palace in Ibstock; 2012 is a special year for The Palace as they will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary. The concert band will be performing a concert of popular film music.

In June we are travelling once more to Pithiviers in France to perform a concert of music in the l'Eglise St Salomon & St Gregoire. The first half of the concert will be pieces of well known British concert band music, including the Holst '2nd Suite in F', Elgar's 'Pomp & Circumstance March No. 4', arrangements of 'Scarborough Fair' and 'Suo Gan', and the demanding competition piece 'Charivari' written by Malcolm Binney. The second half of the concert will be music inspired by the American West, including 'The Magnificent Seven', 'Silverado', 'Dances with Wolves', 'The Cowboys', 'The Last of the Mohicans', 'Shenandoah' and the Re-union and Finale from the HBO television epic 'Gettysburg'.

Later in June we will be performing a concert to help raise much needed funds to repair the roof at our main concert venue, Holy Trinity Church in Ashby de la Zouch. The programme of music will be mainly film music but with a few surprises to ensure we do our part to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and of course the 2012 Olympics.

In July we have been invited back to give another Sunday afternoon concert of music in the grounds of Newark Castle - the perfect way to end another Band year before our summer break.
