| After 18 months of planning and preparation, SCB finally made it to Pithiviers in France in 2006, and what a success the trip turned out to be!
On Saturday 3rd June at 8.30 p.m. SCB gave a concert of music to an audience that numbered in excess of 300 people. The first half of the programme consisted of classics for windband by English composers, including the The English Folk Song Suite by Vaughan-Williams, the 1st Suite in Eb and Marching Song by Holst, and Fantasia on an English Folk Tune by Gordon Jacobs, all preceded by Ron Goodwins Tall Ships.
The second half was given over to music from screen and stage, including The Godfather, Out of Africa, Phantom of the Opera, Fiddler on the Roof, and Les Miserables. |
On the Saturday morning, SCB played for two hours in a central square in Pithiviers. Under clear blue skies, and showing off the new orange SCB polo shirts, we played a variety of light music including music by the Beatles and Queen, plus favourites like Mambo No. 5, Copacobana, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, The Trolley Song, and Puttin' on the Ritz - to name but a few.
This was followed by a lunch-time Reception hosted by the Ashby - Pithiviers Twinning Association and familes who had hosted the Band members during their stay in Pithiviers.
All in all, a fantasitic success for the Band, for the Ashby-Pithiviers Twinning Association and for the people of Pithiviers.
A big, big "thank you" to everyone who was involved in organising a memorable event. |
